I'm currently stumped trying to get Outlook XP to work on a new system that
I just set up. I got a brand new system put together this window (new mobo,
cpu, etc.). I installed WinXP Pro just fine. Everything fired up and has
been working fine. So, I've been resintalling software, and I just got
around to installing Office XP from disc. It installed fine (I could run
Word and Excel, etc.), so I then installed Office XP SP1.
Next I fired up Outlook to set up a new email account so it could get my
email from my mail server. So, I typed everything in as per usual. But,
when I click "Test Settings" it immediately fails, complaining it cannot
connect to the Internet. Of course, I can use Internet Explorer to browse
any web site. So, I fired up Outlook Express and set it up exactly the
same... and it DOES work just fine (it pulled my pending email down just
fine!). So I deleted my account in Outlook and tried setting it up again,
but get the exact same results. Outlook Express works fine; Outlook XP
thinks it can't connect to the Internet.
Very strange. Any thoughts on the matter...?
