I've set up Outlook XP to work with my hotmail account, but I don't believe it is working correctly
I searched, but have had difficulty in finding any reference to how everything is supposed to work. But I don't thnk things are working the way they should be
Currently I can go to any of the folders in my hotmail account, and see all the messages in the folders. I am able to down load all messages, and open messages. I can also send messages via hotmail. What I am unable to do is delete messages. No matter which folder I go to, when I select a message and press delete, I receive the folowing error message
***The server did not understand the request. The server responded 'Invalid header received from browser."**
I also receive the same response when I try to empty the deleted items folder
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes that is right. You cannot do that. It is just the way Hotmail works. See Hotmail is what is called an HTTP mail server. Think about it. Have you ever been able to delete something on any web site you visit? You aren't logged into the Web site as a designer so you don't have the ability to delete anything there. Likely getting the Hotmail servers to allow deletion without being logged in as a designer is why this has always been the case.

When I do this, I have to click on the folder (named MSN mail in my case),
go to file and click on "connect to MSN". I can then delete.

This applies to the deleted folder only. You can delete messages from the
inbox and send them to the deleted folder from outlook.

Look at this article. It tells you that to delete items you have to visit
the Hotmail website. I should have been more specific. You can delete but
only at the site. Hotmail understands the command from its site but not
from applications such as Outlook and Outlook Express.

I have my Outlook Express set up to retrieve my Hotmail and it deletes
single items from any folder as well as empties the deleted items folder in
bulk without problem (right click on deleted items folder and pick empty
folder). Works just the same for Hotmail as for my POP3, except for a known
issue with the "bulk items" folder (can delete single items just fine, but
if you MOVE one, it thinks it was a "delete all" command and wipes out all
items in the bulk folder; wipes out means they are gone from server and not
in deleted items folder). As noted, it appears to be a known issue.

I think I would try deleting the hotmail account in OE and set it up again.
This seems to help most folks in one of the other OE help groups I read.

ya man thanks. I never did that before. I always tried to delete just one mailitem and got the error Not Suported. Why don't it say that at Miocrosoft?

Forgot to mention that I have tried deleting hotmail from Outlook then re-adding it
Same results.

I appreciate all the answers, but from reading the replys it does sound like my system is not functioning properly
I did attempt to try deleting more than one message at the same time, but still receiving the same error message
Along with that, if I attempt to copy a message to another folder I receive the same error
So, any other ideas????
Thanks again for any and all assistance.
