Outlook XP->2003 data import problems

A couple weeks ago, I switched from Office XP to Office 2003. I use
Outlook just to maintain my calendar, contacts, and tasks.

I simply used File/Open to access the old XP pst and saw a link to that
database in the left column.

However, I tried to get fancy and remove the original 2003 link so that i
would only have the link to the XP data.

In the process, i have messed things up royally. Outlook now always wants
to start in safe mode and when I don't allow it, it locks up. When I do
allow it, it locks when I try to exit the program.

I have used KnockOut to shut it down, have tried both repairing Office and
reinstalling it. Nothing seems to work.

Is there a method that will really remove all of Office 2003 so I can start
all over again?

If I may respond to my own post ...

I made some progress by going into the Mail area of Control Panel and
deleting the Outlook item there. Now I can start and exit Outlook.

But I still cannot get Outlook to open my old PST file.

In Outlook click File>Open>Outlook Data File, browse to your old data file,
select it, and click OK.

Brian,

That's what i've been doing. Nothing loads. (It did once upon a time.) I
tried replacing the PST in Documents and Settings/user/ etc. with the XP
file, but no luck.

Absolutely nothing! I don't get a link for another calendar, task list, or
contacts.

So, when you click File>Open>Outlook Data FIle, you don't get a browser
dialogue?

Done that. It gets me into the calendar, but then the outlook locks up. I
have to use task manager to get me back in, and then i am back to the same
cycle.
