Outlook works after reboot. Close outlook and reopen it and it won't work
(send/receive gets no reaction) until another reboot.

XP. Just installed SP3. Office 2003. Did repair of Office that didn't
help.

Thoughts, please.

I think I found it. Google Desktop Toolbar is there problem. There were 8
listings of it in the customized tool bar window. I deleted Goole Desktop
Toolbar and removed all the listings, and Outlook now seems to work.

Unfortunately, several programs and updates want to load this and unless you
remember to "uncheck" and opt out, I suspect it can causes glitches on the
computer.

After you close Outlook, check the Task Manager to see if Outlook.EXE is
still running in the background.

In addition to what Gordon said, you can check if anything else might be
keeping Outlook open in the background like a PDA sync utility, etc

Still doesn't work. It was running (ctrl - alt- delete). Ended it.
Outlook closed. Reopened Outlook. Send - Receive still doesn't work. Need
to completely reboot.

Should I reinstall Office - or is there something else causing the problem?

Thoughts?

YOU WERE CORRECT! OUTLOOK IS CONTININUING AS A PROCESS (NOT AN
APPLICATION).

How do I get it to shut down when I close it?

Thank you.

..

From your later posts, killing the iTunes add-in will do it.
