Outlook won't sync!!!! Help!!!!

I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING!!!

I've had a Dell Axim X30 for 2 1/2 weeks now, and I haven't been able to
sync it with Outlook 2002 EVER!! I've received the same 2 error messages
EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! The error messages are:

"No profiles have been created. To create a new profile, use the Mail icon
in the Control Panel."

and

"Synchronization cannot be completed because your personal information
manager (PIM) program cannot be accessed. Ensure your PIM program is
running, and try to synchronize again. If your PIM program is running,
restart your desktop computer."

I don't know why it says no profile has been created, because there is a
profile there, in fact, a couple. And what "PIM program" is it talking about?

I've tried every suggested solution given to me from generous folks on about
4 different discussion boards. I've installed, re-installed, re-configured,
created profiles, renamed and replaced mapi32.dll files, hard-reset my Axim,
soft-reset my
Axim, spent countless hours on the phone with Dell support personnel who can
barely speak English, researched untold numbers of links to solutions on
untold numbers of websites, and on and on and on. I've gotten nowhere.

Was the CD that Dell sent defective? Both Outlook '02 and ActiveSync 3.7.1
seemed to install just fine. I followed all of the instructions completely,
clicked all of the right buttons.

What do I do next?
