I upgraded to Office 2003, but ever since I moved home, I can no longer send
email. I can recieve them fine, I just can't send them. I get a 550 error.

This is the exact error.

Task 'Aliant - Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook is unable to
connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive
this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider
(ISP).'

Did you have a change in your ISP?...or are you still using the same service
as you were before? (aka, did you go from cable to dial-up?) Also, if you
are running an antivirus program, try turning it off...if that works check
to see if it is set to check outgoing mail.

Good Luck

Well I was using dialup. I was at school and using dialup there, now I'm at
my mom's place and she has cable. The web is working, I can surf, I can
check my email, I just can't send any from Outlook 2003.

I use Outlook express to send newsgroup messages, don't they go thru SMTP?
So it should work....

Ok. I tried my dialup here, and it worked. So I guess its because of the
cable ISP I am using. Is there a way around it?

There is a setting that you could try. I have not played around with
Outlook 2003 yet, but in 2002 you go to where you see your POP3 email
settings (Tools>Email Accounts>View or change existing e-mail
accounts>Change>) then click on More Settings...>Outgoing Server>and then
check the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and use the
same settings as your incoming mail server. Again, it might be slightly
different in Outlook 2003 so you may have to look a little bit for it, or if
anyone else could point you to it, that'd be good too. If this doesn't
work, I would call your dialup service provider (the ones hosting the email)
and ask if there is anything else that you can do.

Good Luck

Most ISPs nowdays will not let you connect to any SMTP servers but their
own, so if you're trying to send via your old account through the cable
connection, it's probably being blocked by the cable ISP. The only way
around that would be to set up your account to use the cable ISP's outgoing
server.
