I've just installed Office 2007 and want to open Outlook 2007 but when it
starts to open I get a message that says cannot open Outlook window set of
folders cannot be opened and attempt to log on to Microsoft Exchange has
failed. Can anyone help?
Thanks
Tony

Is your mail account hosted by a company/ISP that uses Microsoft Exchange?
If not and you just need to setup a POP/IMAP account, go thru the mail
applet in the control panel to add the POP3/IMAP account provider, a
personal folders store, and remove the Microsoft Exchange account type.

I have Outlook 2007 running on Vista Business. Office came pre-installed by
Dell.

About 80% to 90% of the time when I try to start Outlook it gets hung up, I
get taken to a Microsoft page asking me to describe the problem, and then
about 50% of the time Outlook continues and opens properly, the other half of
the time I can't get it to open.

If it won't open, I have to restart my computer and it asks if I want to
start in Safe Mode, I say "yes", and then Outlook starts and works properly.

Any suggestions?

Assuming thats Outlook safe mode, that tends to suggest an outlook add-in is
causing the problem.
Do you have any anti virus intergrated with Outlook?

Are they set to scan email? Disable that feature.
When it won't start, look in Task Manager - processes tab. Is outlook.exe
listed? Select it and click End task button.
do you open and close outlook several times a day? try leaving it open all
day.
Does this dell have Media Direct? If so, disable the outlooksetupaddin. See

Thanks all I solved my original problem by deleting the Exchange setup for
the user and creating a pop email account.
Thanks again
