After unsuccessfully trying to set up exchange server 2003, outlook now won't
open at all. I get the message that ***.ost is not an offlne folder. Then
the program boots me out.

Tried to start in safe mode (Shift while Starting). Completely uninstalled
office 2003, but apparently the config files remained and on reinstall, it is
the same problem.

Any tips on how to crack this problem are appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,

Once Outlook is configured for an exchange account, its not possible to
remove the account from Outlook unless we remove it from the Control
Panel>Mail.
Or you could try to open Outlook by creating a new profile and making the
new profile as the default profile.

Thanks,

Mittu

Hey,

This is a great first step, but nothing I try in the Mail option allows me
to connect to and/or check my hotmail account. I feel like I'm taking crazy
pills!!!

You should always quote a portion of the message to which you're responding
so others know the context of your post.

If you're in an office environment where Exchange is the mail server, there
are several factors that may prevent Outlook from accessing Hotmail. One is
that your network people may block Hotmail access. Another is that if you
have a free Hotmail account, MSN itself blocks access to Hotmail using
Outlook.

Ok, I am confused. I do not have exchange server, yet Outlook 2003 only opens
once. After that I I receive the not responding message concerning Exchange
Server. If I restart the computer, I can have a one time access to Outlook
again. The cycle drives me crazy.

I went to CONTROLPANEL>MAIL anyway. The only settings offered were identical
to those found at TOOLS>Email accounts.

I have Outlook on two other computers. The computers are networked, but
maintain independendent email and data files. They work fine. The only
difference that I can see is that the faulty installation one has an OUTLOOK
ICON in the desk tray.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2003 with the same result.

Does a secret exist to uninstalling (other than using add remvove programs)?
Does a secret exist to installing to by pass a hidden exchange server option?

'Contol Panel|Mail|Show Profiles|Add', create a new profile and do NOT add
the Exchange Server service to it. After you have the new profile setup and
tested, you can delete the old one.

Ok, That solved the inability to open Outlook two times in a row without
rebooting. However, I cannot receive my email.

Here is the error messageYour mailbox is temporarily unavailable because
anothe remail is being delivered to it or another mail application is
accessing it. Server responded ERR-box locked.

I crearted a new profile. I deleted the old. I restarted. New porfile works

I added a new PST file. I restarted. ERROR MESSAGE as per above.
I deleted the old PST file. I restarted. I received the same error message.

See if this applies:

I know what an email account is. I do not know what an email client is much
less how to disable it.

I have only used Outlook for 10 years. I have no idea about other "clients"
or how to identify them.
Are "clients" related to profiles?

Should I uninstall MS Office, delete all registry entry entries, squirrel
down to local applications\office\outlook etc. and start over?

Can I simply scratch all email accounts and all email profiles and start over?

Thnx

Hal,

I turned off the virus checker. I turned off spysweeper. As a test, I added
one of my other email account names and passwords in OUTLOOK. I deleted the
email account that would not work. I rebooted. Outlook worked. I then added
back the original email account. I restarted and it worked too. Then I
deleted the test email account name. Everything still works.

Thanks for the heads up!
