outlook won't open after adding exchange server account

Hi there

After I added an Exchange Server e-mail account, Outlook hangs on opening
and after 15 minutes or more I have to end the process OUTLOOK.EXE from
within Task Manager. When opening Outlook again, I am prompted to open in
safe mode, and the same thing happens. Finally I am prompted to 'Detect and
Repair' ... and after an apparently successful detect-and-repair, Outlook
still hangs on opening.

I haven't done anything unusual except add the Exchange Server account, so I
don't have more detailed information.

Please help!

Best regards
Loane

P.S. I'm using Outlook 2003 (client) and Exchange Server 2003 (on Windows
Small Business Server 2003).

Create a new mail profile and see if it works....just put Exchange Server in
there. No POP, no PST, no nothin'.
What do you want to end up with in the profile, at the end of the day? Since
you have Exchange, don't use a PST file...

Hi there

The problem described in the previous post arose in trying to set up a
mobile user's Exchange account to use RPC over HTTP. The user has a widely
variable connection environment, and it's not very useful that he has to be
connected to the Internet and the server for the setup. Nonetheless, by some
hard booting and working-around I got to doing it, and I changed the
connection settings (Tools, Email accounts, Change...) to "Manual" and the
default to "Work offline". Now when the user opens Outlook, Exchange is
Offline and Send/Receive now performs OK for the user's other email
accounts. The problem described in my earlier post appears to have arisen
from Outlook trying indefinitely to connect to Exchange on opening ... my
default timeout setting is 30 seconds, but changing this doesn't make any
difference if no connection is present. Outlook tries to connect to Exchange
indefinitely, giving the impression of hanging. Do you know of a more
effective way of enforcing a particular timeout? The problem I'm
experiencing now, with the Exchange email account Offline, is that all
Send/Receive actions on the user's remaining email accounts are held up
while Outlook tries to connect to Exchange.

Please help!

Best regards
Loane

Sorry, I'm honestly not sure. I don't mix Exchange with other mail accounts
in a mail profile. You could set up multiple profiles.
