Everytime I log in and start Outlook 2003, it won't connect until I run
IPCONFIG and Release and Renew...

This happens everytime! Obviously this is not right... does anyone know
what may be causing this and what I can do to correct it?

Do you have more than one computer in the house but only one internet
connection? Is it possible that the other computer picks up the IP address if
the one is turned off?

We do have more than one computer, but the computers are assigned the IP by
our DHCP server. The IP does not appear to be taken. After I Release and
Renew, the IP address of the computer is the same as before. So, event
though the IP address is released, the DHCP server gives it the same one
again when I renew... but then everythign works fine?

We are conectign to our own Exchange Server 2003 running on Windows Server

Please reply to the original post and don't change the subject. This is a
newsgroup which you are viewing through a web interface, not a chat room.

Thank you.

Chill Gordon. It looks like he was adding information to the original post
that he left out. Geez...

So TGH, you are on a network, connecting to an Exchange server, but can only
connect by releasing and renewing your IP address. Is that the scoop.
Definitely sounds like some DHCP or DNS issues here, nothing wrong with
OutLook to me.

jeez Gordon... I've read a lot of your posts and it seems your spend more
time correcting people than actually answering questions...

Should we ask for a hall pass to go the bathroom too...

Hi Terry,

Thanks for the shout at Gordon the "Barney Fife" of this newsgroup...

anyway, back to the topic, yes I am on a Network connecting to an Exchanges
server. The problem only happens on one of the workstations and with only
one user.

So for example we have workstation #1 (the problem computer), I log into the
network as me, and then open Outlook, no problems; the problem user logs
into the network as himself he has to release and renew IP before he can
connect.

At workstation #2 both he and I can log in to the network and open our
Outlooks with no problems.

I find it quite perplexing and confusing. I have checked the settings at
both workstations are exactly the same, so I have no idea why both would not
act the same.

Thanks for your help.

Tim

The problem with creating a NEW thread instead of carrying on in the old one
is that it makes your posts more difficult to find and reduces the chance
that anyone's going to track old your posts down to give you an answer. You
only hurt yourself.

Thanks for the information, it really helps to have the whole story. Sounds
like DHCP or WINS to me as well.
