David--
I have another possibility for you to try. Since one of the MSKBs granted
not for Vista specifically but most of them haven't been written yet, and
for OL 2002 implicates a corruption in Mlang.dll file, I think you have
everything to gain and nothing to lose by doing these five things:
1) Run SFC System File checker and it may replace a potentially corrupted
..dll with an intact one.
Run it this way: i
www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html
Do the regedits so that it points to your HD in case there have been updates
for your unnamed build of Vista or your unnamed version of Outlook.
2) Try to reregister the .dll by putting up your run box (Win Key +R) and in
the run box type:
regsvr32 Mlang.dll and hit enter.
The context for the first two is the information in this MSKB: (Often MSKBs
apply to more than the version named but since you didn't name it, nor the
Vista build I'm guessing at both):
OL2002: (IMO) Message Text Is Replaced with Red x's in Message Body (OS's
prior to Vista but the .dll may be relevant)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318655/en-us
Cause: This behavior can occur if the Mlang.dll file has been corrupted.
3) Try doing detect and repair on Outlook this way:
Open up Outlook>Help>Detect and Repair
4) Try several system restore points if necessary.
5) Use Win RE's Startup Repair:
How to Use Startup Repair:
***Accessing Windows RE (Repair Environment):***
1) Insert Media into PC (the DVD you burned)
2) ***You will see on the Vista logo setup screen after lang. options in the
lower left corner, a link called "System Recovery Options."***

3) Select your OS for repair.
4) Its been my experience that you can see some causes of the crash from
theWin RE feature:
You'll have a choice there of using:
1) Startup Repair
2) System Restore
3) Complete PC Restore
Good luck,
