Hi

Outlook does not what I tell him to do:
I have several eMail accounts (Exchange and IMAP). When I select an account
with normal SMTP to _send_ the mails, Outlook often (not always) uses the
Exchange account to send them. (Unfortunately I'm not connected to the
exchange server very often). Then every few second the message pops up, that
outlook is not able to connect - this is really a pain!

Any solution? Does anybody know on what it depends which account is used for
sending?

thanks
Daniel

What version of Outlook as before Outlook 2002 a mixed service profile isn't
recommended nor supported typically because of the issues that you are
experiencing. This will also happen to some degree with Outlook 2002 and
2003 when you try to send an email from your IMAP or POP3 account but to a
user on your Exchange Server.

I'm using Outlook 2002.
But I think that's the point. Messages to users on the exchange server are
routed through the wrong account. Other messages are taking the right way
(most).

Hi Daniel,
I may have got the wrong end of the stick, your first post mentioned
Exchange taking over the Send regardless of the Account that you choose and
I replied that this is typical of earlier version and also in Outlook 2002
when you send to an Exchange user and choose a non Exchange account to send
it through. Just so I have it straight what account is sending to the
Exchange users and is it the one you choose or is it being usurped.

that's right.
Just so I have it straight what

my case: I'm working as an external at a client company, which blocks
communication (port 135 - guess why) to my home-office-exchange-server. So I
want to use another account which uses normal SMTP to send my mails. Now I
set for every outgoing mail the SMTP account to use for sending. Of course I
use often eMail-addresse which are hosted on the Exchange-Server. In most
cases outlook then tries to connect to the Exchange server for sending my
mails (even if I had selected the SMTP account).
I think it is clear now.

by the way: does anybody see a possibility to use an Exchange Server if Port
135 is blocked? (VPN is also blocked[as it should be in an intranet...]).
Now I'm using the phoneline :-(

One way that worked was by having the Exchange addresses in the
Contact folder, you would have to type these addresses into your
Contacts and not by using the Add to Contact command, then use the TO
button to address your emails. If there are too many addresses for
this to be feasible perhaps you could avail on the Exchange
Administrator to export the GAL to a CSV (2 minute job with Exchange
2000).

This seems to work! :-)
thank you very much for your help.
