I have just downloaded and installed SP3 and its associated update for Outlook in Office XP (Windows XP Home Ed), and with the usual Microsoft inefficiency, my Outlook e-mail settings (which I have not touched at all) no longer work. I have shut down my computer and restarted but to no avail. Please help.

What is the error message that you get in the progress window details? Enable logging since that might tell what is going on.

Do you have any plug-ins (Tools -> Options -> Other -> Advanced)? Could be they are not compatible with the updates, so you'll need to contact the plug-in author to notify them that an update is required. To see if a plug-in is the culprit, start Outlook without loading any plug-ins by starting it in its safe mode:

outlook.exe /safe

Thanks for this information. No, I don't have any add-
ins or plug-ins and I couldn't get Outlook.exe/safe to
work.
The error messages are:

Task 'in.pandora.be - Sending and Receiving' reported
error (0x800CCC0D) : 'Unable to find the e-mail server.
Please verify the server information in your account
properties.'

and:

Task 'pop.freeserve.com - Sending and Receiving' reported
error (0x800CCC0D) : 'Unable to find the e-mail server.
Please verify the server information in your account
properties.'

As far as I can tell, the settings are correct (checked
with ISP details) and I didn't change them before or
after the update.
