The title pretty much describes the basic problem.
Specifically when collecting email from my POP3 server across my LAN,
Outlook takes from 20 seconds to 1 minute 45 seconds per each email that it
picks up. This is compared to Outlook Express that collects the same email
from the same server at a rate of 10s per second to a max of 1 every 5 or 6
seconds.
What this means is that when I start up in the morning and have several
hundred new emails, Outlook takes several HOURS to collect them, where as
Outlook Express (or Eudora, or Thunderbird, or Netscape ... etc) collect them
all in a minute or two.
Normally I wouldn't worry about this, and just forget about using Outlook,
HOWEVER, I'm trying to use a PocketPC, and it apparently can't sync to
anything EXCEPT Outlook.... grrrr (gotta love that Microsoft Flexibility)
Any Ideas?
I'm currently using Outlook 2002. Saw same performance issue with Outlook 97
and 2000, which is why I stopped using Outlook in the first place. That and
Outlook's "endearing feature" of silently corrupting your PST file and
trashing all your email if the file size got near 2 gig. I'm guessing this
problem might also be related to PST file size.
