Outlook unable to open links in IE

I am surprised at how many people are having the problem of not being able to open links in Outlook emails. I am also having the same problem - Internet Explorer opens automatically but nothing else happens, no web page opens and I have to copy and paste the URL. This also only recently started happening to me. I am surprised that I have yet to see a fix for this problem. Microsoft...are you there...please?
 
I noticed someone suggested changing the format of the email to Rich Text Format (RTF) - which works for individual emails (but not all). I had to choose to Edit Message from the Edit menu, then change to Rich Text from the Format menu - as many steps as copying and pasting the URL - there has to be an easier fix.
 
Do you have a pop-up blocker installed? Try disabling it. Note that the
Google toolbar also has a pop-up blocker.
