Outlook Today screen missing (Outlook 2003)

My Outlook Today screen has gone blank. (I'm running Outlook 2003). I ran
Detect and Repair; I reset the Outlook defaults; I even reinstalled the
software. I still just get a blank Outlook Today screen. Any ideas how to
get it back?

TIA,
Mike

Thanks, but I had already tried that. But to be sure, I just tried both
suggestions again -- resetting defaults and inserting the specific filename.
I still get a blank screen. I have also COMPLETELY deleted Microsoft Office
2003, deleted the outlook.pst file (after backing it up) and reinstalled
Office. I still get the same blank Outlook Today page.

Plus there's another problem. When I open an email to reply, I get the
message that "Microsoft Word is set to be your email editor. However, Word
is not available, not installed, or not the same version as Outlook." Like
the Outlook Today problem, this problem does not go away after I uninstall
and reinstall the entire Office Professional 2003. I had been running
Outlook 2003 with no problems for a couple weeks when these problems
suddenly appeared yesterday.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Mike

And the "Show home page by default for this folder" *is* checked on the Home
Page tab, right? And this is the root folder for your *default* mail store
(where your mail is delivered)?

As for the WordMail problem -- are you able to reply after clicking OK on
the error message, or not? (I'm searching for MSKB articles that may match,
and that info may help.)

Jocelyn,

Thanks VERY MUCH for helping me with this.

Re the Outlook Today problem: Yes, "Show home page by default..." is
checked. I should add that sometimes the window is blank and sometimes (less
often) I get the message: Action Cancelled. Internet Explorer was not able
to connect to the web page you requested.

Re the WordMail problem: Yes, I am able to continue after I click the error
message; the Outlook editor opens. I have also noticed that this problem
depends on whether the email I'm replying to is in Plain Text or HTML
format. If plain text, then Word opens as the editor. If HTML, I get the
error message and the Outlook editor opens.

TIA for any further ideas.

Jocelyn,

I checked the add-ins and under Add-In Manager there are two: Exchange
Extensions and Windows CE Support. Under COM Add-Ins there is one for
Symantec Anti-Spam. In fact, these problems started at about the time I
installed Symantec Anti-Spam. So, I tried this: I uninstalled Anti-Spam then
uninstalled both Outlook and Word, rebooted, then reinstalled Outlook and
Word. Unfortunately, I still have all the same symptoms: the Outlook Today
page displays either a blank window or the Internet Explorer error, and
trying to reply to an HTML formatted message causes the WordMail error.

This is not an upgrade. It is a clean install of Office 2003.

I give up! Is there any way to go back to the beginning, to do an absolutely
complete uninstall of Office? Do I have to reformat my harddrive and rebuild
the whole computer to clean this up?

Thanks for your help,
Mike

Jocelyn,

I just discovered that I'm having other problems with Word 2003. Whenever I
try to format a bulleted or numbered list, Word crashes. This also happens
when autoformat tries to format a numbered or bulleted list. And once again,
I tried to COMPLETE uninstall and reinstall Office, and the problem did not
go away. I know this is the Outlook newsgroup, but I thought this symptom
might give you additional information.

TIA,
Mike

Here are a couple of last-ditch ideas that I've read may help with these odd
problems in Office 2003:

1) For the Outlook problem, try creating a completely new mail profile and
then deleting the old one

2) If you're running Norton AntiVirus, try temporarily disabling it and see
if the problems disappear

If these don't help, I'm afraid I'm out of ideas...you may want to wait a
day or two and repost to see if someone else can help (a new post may get
more responses than this older thread will). Good luck.

Outlook shouldn't be checking the internet at all when you click
Outlook Today, at least if you are using the default OT page. Do
you have any add-ins installed? Go to Tools | Options | Other tab |
Advanced Options button and then click each of the two add-ins
buttons on that dialog...see what you come up with.

Did you upgrade to Office 2003 from another version of Office, or is
this a completely clean install? I'm looking at MSKB article
#319796...it actually pertains to Outlook 2002 but there aren't any
similar ones for Outlook 2003.

Jocelyn,

Thanks for all your help. I had already tried your "last ditch" suggestions.
No luck. I've posted the Word numbered/bulleted list crash problem on the
Word newsgroup--and discovered at least one other similar post there. I am
going to reformat my hard drive and start from scratch.

I have this same problem that Mike Storms is experiencing. Any further suggestions. In particular, I have the same MS Word Bulleting problems. I don't want to format my hard drive though. That seems drastic and I have time to discover the real problem.
