beginning today, each email that I send is received at the other end missing
the first letter of the subject line. the only thing different today than
yesterday is that I've updated Norton. Any ideas what's wrong, how to fix?

sounds like it could be a Norton problem - disable email scanning and see if
it still occurs.

I have the same problem. Disabling emai scan did not solve the problem. Any
other advice?

Yeh this just started happening to me as well. Only first letter of the
subject line is missing. Wonder if any recent update to windows is the
culpret?

I am having the same problem - I recently renewed my subscription for
Norton and it started happening after the renewal. I have use multiple
email accounts through my outlook profile and it strips the 1st letter
of the subject regardless of the mail account I send from.

I don't beleive I have had any recent windows updates so I am assuming
it is the NAV that is the culprit but can't get any help on this.

Any ideas??

I contacted Norton and they were working on the problem over several days and
Sometime during that period my email started working again just fine (1st
letter of the subject line now shows up). So, I am wondering if Norton
downlloaded a fix without my knowledge since I use auto update. However, the
incident was still open and I had to have them close it. Go Figure? Anyway, I
am convinced this is a Norton probem and you should contact them. Sorry I
have no details on the fix itself.

Hello all: I am fighting this same problem. I have tried shutting down the
Norton AntiVirus software and this made no difference. This may or may not
be relevant: copies of messages that go into the Sent Mail folder do show the
first letter of the message subject - it is only in the received message
that the first letter is deleted. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Most likely, then, the problem is on the recipient's end.

The problem does not appear to be exclusively on the recipient's end.
Several people to whom I have sent emails have reported the problem.
However, I think I have stumbled on a solution. Following the encouragement
of others in this discussion, I tried shutting down the elements within
Norton AntiVirus that work with email. Upon changing the status of the
checkboxes from "On" to "Off", I then experimented with email to see if the
problem was corrected. It was not. I then tried switching those elements
off and, while they were off, I shut down and restarted my computer. After I
did that, the problem disappeared. The problem remains absent even after
switching back on all of the Norton Internet Security components. So, an
inelegant solution, but it appears to have worked. Good luck to anyone else
who is struggling with this annoyance. By the way, Symantec is nearly
clueless about this problem.
