I checked the log and the "ERROR" line reads "Application Hang" - that
doesn't seem to help much. I am using POP3. My DSL provider is not the same
company as my server. I have been talking with both.
New Problem however. Outlook won't open at all. I haven't done anything to
change it today, but there were a number of downloads from MS that
automatically came in when shutting down earlier today. After that - I can't
open Outlook. AND the icon changed color from gold to kind of an olive green
- is this a different version? I was using 2003 - which was the gold-like
color - weird things happening here - Can I just download 2007 and make this
all go away?
Hi Bettsy,
Wow. That is odd indeed. I've never heard of the Outlook icon
changing color. And it wouldn't upgrade to a new version without you
knowing it, since you would have to pay for the new version first!
One question I have only because this is so strange: do you have anti-
virus software installed, and up to date with current anti-virus
definitions? Have you run a full scan using the AV software?
If your PC is virus-free, you may indeed want to save your office
settings (though if Outlook won't start, you may or may not be able to
do that easily) - the quick and easy way is to use the Office Save My
Settings Wizard. (On my PC I get there from Start\All Programs\Office
\Microsoft Office Tools\Microsoft Office 2003 Save My Settings
Wizard). That will save all of your Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
settings to a file. Then you could either uninstall Office 2003, and
reinstall it if you have the CDs, then import your settings using that
same Wizard, or you could uninstall 2003, and install 2007 if you have
that. I'm not sure if settings imported from 2003 will import to 2007
though. In either case, I would suggest uninstalling 2003 first
because a re-install would just upgrade and the problematic files may
not get replaced - you may still have the same problems.
I would start with making sure you're PC is free of viruses first
though, and maybe even run a ScanDisk to make sure your hard drive
isn't going bad and corrupt sectors on the disk aren't causing your
woes.
Good Luck!
