Hi all,

I've an end user that seems to have a broken Outlook 2003..

Today when he started his laptop (XP Pro, Office Standard 2003), he
finds that when he starts outlook, it appears (long enough to see the
folder view, not long enough to click any menu options though), and then
it crashes out.

The outlook icon remains in the systray (till you hover and it
disappears). Theres no dr.watson, and nothing entered into the
Application event log.

I've tried:

1) Starting outlook /safe
2) Repairing Office
3) Re-install Office
4) Uninstall, remove %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office, reinstall
5) Clean out the .ost files
6) Remove the exchange config/reapply.

I'm out of options, other that re-imaging the whole PC.

Any ideas?

Adrian

Have you tried a new mail* or windows xp profile?

/neo

* By this I mean create a new mail profile and switch to it. Don't copy the
existing or delete/create with the same name.

You can delete and recreate the Outlook profile, reboot inbetween. You could
try renaming the *.dat and *.srs files while Outlook is closed as well but
try things one at a time, testing Outlook inbetween. You might also want to
run a scanpst against any PST file he may have.

Where are the profiles stored??

Mail profiles are stored in the registry.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging

Hi - we figured this out.. Problem was caused by Sony Ericsson mobile
phonesync software... Although I don't get how it could affect outlook
after a complete remove/reinstall of Office, and no requests to allow
for plugins etc..
