Hi there

I've encountered a very annoying problem using Outllook 2000. When I have opened my outlook and then open any document made in Word or Excel, it takes about 20 seconds before it's open. It just started doing this one fine day.

Could you please help me, I never thought waiting 20 seconds could be like waiting an eternity.

Thanks in advance

IF you are running Norton Anti-virus, this could be due to the update
they provided on Jan 7/8 which causes this. Check with Symantec's web
site for further details.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Dear Ro

Thanks for the assistance, but it doesn't seem to help one bit. I'll try to explain the problem a little more. When my outlook is closed, it's no problem whatsoever opening Word or Excel, however when Outlook is opened that's when it all starts. When I close it again and try to open W or E once more: NO PROBLEM... I know it's very strange

The new certificate from VeriSign didn't seem to work, but thanks anyway

Do you have another solution

Thanks in advanc

I'm not sure I agree with Norton's advice but it is their advice and
they have a right to give it.

Now that we've established that you use Norton Anti-virus, maybe just
eliminate use of that add-in. Causes all kinds of problems.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I am experiencing the same exact symptoms, and have been
since around Oct 2003. I also run NAV, but completely
disabling it has not helped. Some additional info:

1) The problem occurs when Outlook is open AND the file
is opened in any of the following ways:
a) Clicking on an attachment in an e-mail message
b) Double clicking on the file in File Explorer
Note that if the file is opened directly from the
application (e.g. Word-File-Open) it works fine.
2) In addition to Word and Excel, Adobe Acrobat also
exhibits the same behavior. For some reason, PowerPoint
works just fine.
3) Internet Explorer also opens slow when clicking on an
embedded URL in an e-mail

As long as Outlook is closed, everything works fine. If
Outlook is open, the problem appears.

These two steps helped me.

You might try them one at a time.

STEP 1
A. In Norton AV click Options, then select Miscellaneous.
B. Uncheck "Enable Office Plug-in"
C. Click OK, close Norton AV and reboot.

STEP 2
A. In Internet Explorer go to
Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab
Uncheck "Check for publisher's certificate revocation" in the SECURITY sction.

Good luck.

Michael

Correction:

Uncheck "Check for server certificate revocation" in the SECURITY section
(final section in window).

Correction to STEP 2 below.

I should have said:

Uncheck "Check for server certificate revocation" in the SECURITY section

Hi
I also have this problem. I have not NAV installed ( so I think this
is not the problem). What I have noticed that, when you start outlook
for 4-5 seconds you can open word or excell documents without delay.
I have 2 machines with the same configuration and i only have problems
in one
Hope this will help somebody to help us.

Regards
Cesc
