Outlook signature

I'm currently using Outlook 2002. In older versions of
Outlook there was a signature button on the tool bar that
would allow you to add your signature at the end of a
message when your Outlook was set to not automatically
add the signature. Can't find this option in 2002. I
don't usually want a signature on my messages. But the
few times I do, do I need to go into options and set the
signature for automatic, send the message and then reset
it for "none"???

You should be able to go into the Tools menu, under
options. Create a signature, save. Now if you set your
preferences to continue as using <none> for a signature,it
will continue that way. When you want to use your email
signature, start typing the name of the signature.
Outlook should treat this as an "autotext" and ask you if
you want the signature in a little white box by the
cursor. You hit Enter, and poof. There is your signature.

I have my problems with 2002 as well. When you create a new e-mail or reply, can't you simply select the menu item INSERT and then Signature?

Sounds like you're using WordMail, which does not include an Insert |
Signature command like the regular Outlook editor. If you want to be able to
insert a signature into a WordMail message manually, you can to create an
AutoText entry for each signature. You can then insert them with the Insert
| AutoText command.

Or, create multiple signatures the normal way and make one the default. If
you want to use a different signature for the current message, right-click
the signature that Outlook inserted automatically. From the pop-up menu,
select either the name of the signature you want to use or E-mail Signature
to create a new one.

I went into tools and created the signature. I set the
preferences to continue using <none>. But when I type
the name of the signature there is no autotext. Where is
the setting in Outlook or Word that enables this feature?

AutoText and signatures are two different things. IF you want to use
AutoText, you have to create AutoText entries.

If you want to use signatures, make one the default. (It can be blank or
nearly so.) If you want to use a different signature for the current
message, right-click the signature that Outlook inserted automatically. From
the pop-up menu, select either the name of the signature you want to use or
E-mail Signature to create a new one.

May I say that not have the manual insert e-mail signature function is becoming a pain. It was much easier before the upgrade. I don't want to have to constantly delete my signature, as I would have to do if it was set to automatic. Is there any way to change this? From reading this discussion list, it seems many people feel this way......

Tools>Options>Mail Format. Select "None" in the two "Signature for ..."
drop-downs. If you have signatures defined for the account, they'll be
available on the "Signature" button in the Compose window, which you can
click when you want to add a signature. That's the way I use it.

The newsgroup interface you are using apparently does not quote earlier
messages in the thread, making your latest message so short on detail that
you risk not getting the answer you're looking for. Please take the time to
quote the original message. Without information on your Outlook version and
email editor (WordMail or regular Outlook editor), it's impossible to
provide a response.
