Outlook 2003 is not recognizing my email account settings (POP3 and SMTP),
although Outlook Express does. I am retrieving mail from Outlook Express and
using import/export to view them in Outlook. There must be a better way. I
would prefer to retrieve email from Outlook directly. Is it a DNS problem?
How do I fix it?
Thank you.

Hi KSR,
please discribe which provider do you use!!
Have you checked your account settings?

The account settings in Outlook are exactly the same as in Outlook Express --
I imported the settings from Outlook Express to Outlook. The ISP is exactly
the same, too. I've set Outlook as my default mail server. But everyvtime I
try to "Send/Receive" from Outlook, I get these error messages:
0x800CCCOD, 0x80042108, 0x80040900
When I "Send/Receive" from Outlook Express, with the exact same ISP and the
exact same account settings, I am able to send and retrieve my mail.

PS. I've also uninstalled and re-installed Office several times, and I've
used the "repair" function several times. The problem still persists.

Thank you, Andreas, for looking up those threads of discussion. My ISP tech
support also found the same threads of discussion, which were of limited
help.
The first thread gave the cause of the problem -- Norton's firewall in the
Internet Security 2004 program, but its remedy -- to un-install and
re-install the program -- was a waste of time and ineffective. The solution
came when I re-configured the firewall, under its "programs" tab, to give
Outlook the same settings as the default settings for Outlook Express, which
was able to send/receive all along.

Perhaps this will help someone else.
Thank you again for your time and trouble.
KSR
