Outlook should pop-up current appointments without Outlook open

Appointments within their "reminder" time frame should all display when
Windows starts up and again when a new appointment/task enters it's specified
"reminder" time frame without the need to open Outlook. Such appointments
should remain in this "reminder window" until dismissed. The "reminder
window" would remain displayed until closed.

This feature would help remind of upcoming appointments/tasks even when
Outlook had not been opened.

And they will, as long as you start Outlook and haven't dismissed the
reminders.

Impossible. SOMETHING must be running to display the data and since Outlook
is the only program that can read Outlook data, then Outlook's your ionly
choice. If you don't like it, use another calendar program. There are many
available. (But then you'd have to run _that_ program when Windows starts.)

Describe how you think an application can show data without being open.

Brian,
I apparently didn't make myself clear. Microsoft Works Calendar runs in the
background and "pops up" appointments. However, you do not have to have the
full Microsoft Works application open. I like Outlook and if I could have
only the scheduled appointments portion running in the background on startup
to display those appointments, I think it would be great.

You are correct. One does have to have something running to get this
feature. Maybe I just don't know how to have this feature showing all
appointments within their "reminder" window display automatically. Even I
know something has to be operating. I just thought a portion of the program
could be running without having all the features of Outlook open.
Thanks for your comments,
Bill

You have to have the calendar portion of it open, though (just because it
doesn't swhow on your screen doesn't mean it's not open). The difference
between Works and Outlook is that Works is a bunch of separate applications,
whereas Outlook is not.

However, the scheduler isn't a separate portion. Outlook is a monolithic
application.

Many people find that having Outlook's handle showing in the System Tray
instead of the Taskbar is suitable enough. Both Outlook 2002 and 2003 can
do that.

Thanks, Brian. I just purchased 2003 and was unaware of that option. That
will accomplish what I was looking for. I do appreciate your help for one of
those less educated. Have a Merry Christmas.

He may not be technically capable of describing what you are asking,
but he may remember Schedule+ which did a great job of opening
reminders even when Schedule+ wasn't running.

I'll wager it did run, or at least a specific reminder tool did.
