Outlook should NOT totally disable Outlook Express on install.

I installed Office with the typical configuration, and when I was done,
Outlook Express would no longer function. I never got a warning that this
would happen or any kind of confirmation dialog. Immediately after
installing Office (Professional Edition 2003 SP2), my Contacts list under OE
disappeared, messages would no longer open, and OE gave me a message that I
needed to reinstall, as it was incorrectly configured. Un/reinstalling
through the Windows Components control panel did not fix the problem, and I
was unwilling to uninstall Office and reinstall Windows to see if that would
do the trick. If I had been warned during install that Outlook and Outlook
Express could not coexist under one user profile, that would be one thing,
but to have a major component of my productivity software just destroyed out
from under me is completely unacceptable.

In the future, either allow these two applications to peacefully co-exist,
or else warn immediately after the user selects "Install with Typical
Components" that Outlook Express was detected in the profile, and that
continuing with this option will disable that application.

You have an unconnected problem, Office2003 installs/runs fine and doesnt
upset OE even if you run OL also
