Hello,
If outlook is used through terminal servers with load
balancing, how do people set outlook per user and make it
valid for all terminal servers? We set user profile for a
user in one terminal but it is not valid in the other
one, we have to do the same things in each terminal
server and sometimes we lose profile settings in the
terminals servers and then we have to stat over for 400
users.
Thanks,
Jim.

If you have a farm of Terminal Servers then you need to use Terminal Services Roaming Profiles for each user, otherwise they'll have different desktop settings each time they get connected to a different machine

Patrick, thanks for the reply.
we have problems with roaming profile, I am wondering if
there is any other way to handle it.

Not that I know of. Roaming Profiles are pretty uch the standard when it comes to providing consistent appearance & functionality. What problems are you having

Thanks Patrick,
Can you summarize me how we can set roaming profile, I am
not a network admin and someone has done that but it takes
time to log in and log out, applying and saving settings
takes time. We have a shared drive and all the usernames
listed there, how do we need to set roaming profile and
what should be the permission on those folders?
Thanks,
Jim

Sure, as this is essential if you have a TS farm.

1. Setup a file share on a server (not on one of the Terminal Servers) called something like TSProfile.
2. In the user's Active Directory Account, specify the Terminal Services Profile path, i.e. \\ServerName\TSProfile\%UserName%
3. Create the directory and assign the user Full Permissions. Users should also be owners of their profile directories.
4. Logon to a Terminal Server with the source profile, i.e. the one you want the user to have roam with their logons. When they logoff their local profile will be propogated to the Terminal Services Profile Path.

If you're experiencing long logon & logoff w/ Terminal Services Profiles you may not have redirected the user's Home Folder to a network location (using Group Policy), so it would be copying the users Home Folder into the user's profile (NOT GOOD)

It's possible via Registry Entry to disable the caching of local profiles, if local storage space is a concern.
