Outlook Service pack 1 will not install

I have tried installing this upgrade both from Microsoft Update and as a
stand alone download but I just get a message, after a long installation
run, installation failed

Any one have help on this
 
Hi Word 8 users

This is the message I get towards the end of stand alone install of Office 2007 SP1
Outlook Service pack 1 will not install " Word.Document.8\shell\edit not written"

I get the same error if I run repair from within Outlook although the diagnostics report no errors.

I tried reinstalling office but the problem persists

if you have any clues I would be grateful
