Hello,

I installed Outlook 97. I then installed the 2000 upgrade CDs. I then
installed the XP upgrade CDs.

I have 3 e-mail accounts on this computer. Two of which are on one host, and
the other is an MSN one. The two on the web hosting provider do not work.
Outlook says it cannot connect to the server.

We have another computer on the network (w/ Outlook 2000) that reads from
the same .pst file and has the same e-mail accounts on it. All three of them
work though.

On the problematic computer, I have tried deleting and re-creating the
accounts. While this helps, after I close and re-open the program, the
problem starts up again. About once a day the e-mail will work however. Any
ideas?

First, check the server names that you entered in the accounts on the
problematic computer - there may be a typo there. If that's not the
problem, does the computer have a firewall or some other program that might
be preventing Outlook from connecting?

No, but it does have an anti-virus setup to scan the incoming mail. I
believe it started before the AV was installed, but I'll make sure....

Ok, I checked. Sure enough, after I re-created it, the AV took the account
back over and broke it. So it's the AV's fault. Now that I've identified the
culprit (it would do this w/ both Norton and Mcafee), how do I get my e-mail
virus scanned?
