We've run into more that our share of problems with a recent clean install
of SBS 2003 Standard Edition, and I decided to remove a laptop from the
network.
In an effort to speed things up, I simply returned my laptop to a "restore
point" prior to when it was joined to the network.
Unfortunetly, the server had downloaded the full version of Outlook to my
laptop. After the restore, Outlook Express appeared, my emails where intact.
When I try to send or receive emails by clicking on the "send/receive" icon,
I get a message "operation failed". Nothing more. No error number, just that
message.
I tried re-creating my profile per KB 318378 and deleted my old profile. I
seems to send email ok, I just can't receive anything. I'm fearing the SBS
2003 server setup and whatever Exchange does is possibly screwing this up
somehow.
I ran the "System File Checker" and after about 30 minutes, I though I had
re-installed or repaired IE & Outlook, but Outlook is still having the same
problems.
Can Outlook be repaired? Can it be un-installed and re-installed without IE
being affected? The KB article noted editing the registry, but I didn't
understand what it meant by changing the data value from a 1 to a 0.
Any help is appreciated. Needless to say, I'm trying to avoid re-installing
everything from scratch on my laptop.
