I am trying to locate the registry setting in Outlook 2000
to allow other programs to have the ability to send email
for Windows NT 4.0 SP 6a. Currently, if someone needs
another program, such as intuit's Trackit!, a security pop-
up arrives asking if you are aware that the program is
trying to send an email and if you want to grant access
for a certain amount of time. There is a registry setting
that basically turns this feature off. Does anyone know
where it is? Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Not so. There is a registry change for Windows 2000 that
will stop this from happening.

No, there isn't. Perhaps you are thinking of the registry setting that tells
Outlook to look at an Exchange Server to get security settings? That
registry setting in itself does not change the security prompt behavior. It
just tells Outlook to look at the Exchange folder. See

This looks like nothing to do with Exchange.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Security]
"CheckAdminSettings"=dword:00000001

This registry setting will allow other programs to email
from outlook without the warning.

That tells Outlook to check the admin settings in the Exchange public folder
security form. Only if the admin allows whatever methods or properties in
the security form will no security prompts be shown.

As Ken says, that entry has everything to do with Exchange. If the user is
not connecting to an Exchange Server and the server has no Outlook Security
Settings folder, that entry does absolutely nothing.
