Outlook reports send error, fails again and again, but messages are going anyway!

R

Richard Black

Hi,

My outlook XP is being very odd. I have been trying to send some digital
images (750kb, over cable broadband) to some friends. When I do this,
Outlook reports that there was an error waiting for the outgoing server to
respond, and the message appears unsent. It keeps trying to send, and after
a few goes McAfee starts whining about possible worm activity, so I cancel
everything and delete the message from my outbox.

However, the messages are being sent. Repeatedly. Last time I put my own
email adress in the to: field as well and received 8 copies of the email.
I suspect I have some slightly annoyed friends...

I have tried different pictures of similar sizes with no success, and much
smaller pictures, which work fine. None picture attachments (.exe .zip)
also fail. Emails with no attachments work fine. The threshold, seems to
be around 300kb, but I am not certain.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,

Richard

Hi Richard,

Go to your Start, Run, and type Outlook.exe /safe and hit the enter key.
Once Outlook starts up then try sending your large attachments and see if
they will go out without error.

If they do go out without error, then shut down Outlook and start Outlook
the normal way. Once Outlook has started go to Tools, Options, Other,
Advanced Options, Add-in Manager and remove everything that is checked and
try sending again.

If this works without error then start by checking back each item in Add-in
Manager trying your send of attachments between each one to identify which
Add-in is causing the problem.

When you say the message goes and you received copies of your own email,
were the attachments on the email?

Do you get a message about attachments being unsafe when trying to send
them?
