Outlook quits when using Contacts

I have a user who is experiencing a problem using her
local Contacts. Whenever she tries to address a message to
one of her Contacts, Outlook quits. The Contacts list is
in the Outlook Address Book and she is using SMTP
addresses. She can use the Global Address List without a
problem. She has the same problem when she browses her
Contacts folder. Outlook quits after a couple of seconds.
Obviously sounds like her Contacts are corrupted somehow,
but we've been unable to figure out how to repair them.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Background: She's running Outlook 2000 w/Office SP3,
Windows 2000 w/ SP4 and Exchange 2000.
 
Many users have reported that after applying SP3 to Outlook 2000, the
Outlook Address Book crashes. So far, no one knows how to fix it and
Microsoft cannot reproduce the problem. All you can try is to remove the
re-add the Outlook Address Book Service to the profile.
 
We have exactly the same problem as Mark describes. Only one person in the office has this problem suddenly, no one else
I tried already Russ his answer, but that didn't work out
Please, who can help us to solve the problem.
 
i had the same problem. I think it was a corrupt contacts folder.
I created a new contacts folder (with a different name), moved th
contacts to the new folder. Went into the properties of the old folde
and removed the check mark from "show this folder" in the Outloo
address tab.
I deleted the old folder and she has not had the problem since
 
I had the same problem a couple times. The first time, I was able to fix it - the problem was that 1 of the addresses was corrupt - my client thought that one of the addresses was acting strangely, so we deleted it through the contacts screen. However, I am getting the problem on my PC now, and I am pretty sure that I know which contact is causing the problem - but any time that I scroll to it, Outlook closes up and disappears. Any suggestions would be great.
 
I got mine to work. It sucks, but through the process of elimination, I found the address that caused the problem. Create a new contacts folder, and move the contacts from the old folder to the new one, 10 at a time. After every move - try to re-create the problem, eventually, you can figure out which address is causing the problem. Delete the corrupt address, and you should be good to go. If there are any easier ways - please let me know.

The address on my PC that was corrupt was a contact, whom I had changed the email address of. I couldn't see anything physically different about the address to make it look corrupted. I will do my best to be clear with this. The last name of the corrupt address was "Kelly" - whenever I scrolled through the contacts, in the "select names" box (after selecting the TO button in an outgoing message) - as soon as I got just above being able to display the "Kelly" name, outlook closed up on me. I then accessed the Contacts through the Folder List - from there, I could see the corrupt contact. I deleted Kelly - and since then - no more crashes. If that doesn't make sense, I can try to explain it again...
 
I was just wondering what in the Contact Record showed you the address was
corrupt. Did it fail to resolve (i.e., underline) or was the email address
invalid?

Sorry - I didn't check either one of those. I think that address was valid, but I'm not 100% certain of that.
 
That's OK. Thanks anyway.
So many people have this same problem that I'd love to get a handle on it.
Microsoft claims they can't reproduce it, but it's too prevalent not to be
real.
