Hi-Soft

If I copy the (outlook 2003) PST file from my desktop PC into the "Data file
management" folder on my Laptop...all looks good an in sync except I am then
unable to search for contacts in the address book...even though they ARE in
there .. the "Type a contact to find" search comes up blank !

Anyone no why this is happening ?

cheers,

Brian Canham

Because you havent configured your Contacts Folder to be used as an email
address book
Hint: examine properties of Contacts

You need to configure your Outlook Address Book Service on the new installation. Control Panel->Mail Icon->Accounts->Directories->Add.

Hi-Soft

Thanks, I ended up sorting it out with some help :

this is the info that solved it :
Step 2: Mark your contact folder for use with your address book
1. On the File menu, point to Folder, and then click Properties for
your folder name.
2. On the Outlook Address Book tab, click to select the Show this
folder as an e-mail address book check box, type a descriptive name, and
then click OK.

I am using Outlook 2007 and Vista. I imported my contacts file form Outlook
2003 and XP (SP2)

At Accoutn Seetings, Outlook Addres Books is listed as a MAPI address book.
I then went to Contacts Properties and the Outlook Address Book tab but the
"Show this folder as an Outlook Address Book" is dimmed and cannot be
selected...

Looking forward to hearing from you

You never import Outlook data into Outlook. In Outlook 2007 it will corrupt
your Outlook profile and disable your entire address book service. You must
create a new profile and migrate your data file correctly: open the file in
the new profile, set it as your default, and then you will be able to enable
the Contacts Folder as an email address book.
