When i disinstall 2003 and try to import in outlook XP or
2000 the outlook.pst file It tell me that this version of
pst files is incompatible with those earlier version. I
imagine it is because the 2003 version is cripted.

But wait for this punch line: When I reinstall 2003 and
try to import outlook.pst that was made with this version
surprise I get the same incompatibility message. Only at
microsoft!

The problem I have is that I've been working with that
version for four months during witch I updated my list of
clients ( 4 days job). Now I have to do it again. Thank
you Microsoft.

Actually thank yourself for not paying attention.

If you read the description when creating a new pst-file you would see that
Outlook 2003 pst-files are not compatible with earlier versions of Outlook.
This is not because of encryption but because it supports multilingual
Unicode data.

If you want to access that pst-file make sure you patch Office 2003 Beta to
the level when the pst-file was created (probably with the Technical
Refresh).

Also note that when you created this pst-file Outlook 2003 was still Beta
and thus in development. When it is in Beta Microsoft can make unannounced
changes to a product including support for specific files.

I'm sorry to put it like this but don't blame Microsoft for the fact that
you don't know what "Beta" means.

Denis,

We needed to version the PST during the course of
development. This means that a PST created with the
Beta2 Technical Refresh cannot be opened with Beta1.
This is not and was never intended to be a supported
scenario. Rest assured that your PST can still be opened
with the latest Beta.

The new PST will remain incompatible with previous
versions of Outlook. You can always create an "Outlook
97-2002 Personal Folders File", which remains compatible
with previous versions.

I have the same problem... can't export to Outlook 2000,
or in 2000 from Beta 2003. Does anyone know if Microsoft
has a fix for this? Since the Beta version was for
testing, one would assume they would make it easy for you
to export your months of work within 2003 version to your
older version (200 or 2002 or XP). What gives? Is it
their way of forcing you to buy the new 2003 version once
it's realeased as a final version? Shame on you Microsoft!

Thanks to Charles for posting that info. I was able to do this. For
dummies out there like myself, here are the steps:

IN OUTLOOK 2003:
1. GO TO TOOLS MENU
2. E-MAIL ACCOUNTS
3. VIEW OR CHANGE EXISTING EMAIL ACCOUNTS
4. NEW OUTLOOK DATA FILE
5. CHOOSE OUTLOOK 97-2002
6. SAVE IT
7. CLOSE "EMAIL ACCOUNTS" DIALOG BOX
8. GO TO FILE MENU
9. IMPORT AND EXPORT
10. EXPORT TO FILE
11. CHOOSE YOUR CONTACTS FOLDER
12. BROWSE TO THE OUTLOOK 97-2002 PST YOU CREATED IN STEPS 4-6 AND
CHOOSE IT.
13. STEP THROUGH THE REST OF THE EXPORT PROMPTS
14. ONCE THIS PROCESS IS COMPLETED, CLOSE OUTLOOK 2003

Hope this helps,
Don
