I would greatly appreciate advice on a couple of issues regarding MS Outlook
use.

(1) I have a number of contacts that I no longer want to reside in my
active contact list, yet I do not want to delete them permanently, in case I
need them in future. Can I somehow create a contacts archive or otherwise
store them separately. (I also use a PocketPC and do not want them sync
along with active contacts).

(2) How do I "transfer" my outlook materials, calendar, contacts, email,
etc from an old computer to a new computer (old has WinXP and new has WinXP
Pro)?

Thanks very much for your advice.

1) Sure. You can either create a separate Contacts folder somewhere in
your main .PST file, make sure it's not set to sync with your PPC (depending
on your sync program, you may not be able to sync with secondary folders
anyway), and move your unused contacts to that folder by drag and drop. Or,
you can create a new .PST file, create a contacts folder there, and drag the
items to that folder, then close the .PST out of Outlook (it can be reopened
at any time via Outlook's File | Open command). If you are using
AutoArchive to periodically archive old items, you can create a Contacts
folder in the archive.pst file if you like, rather than creating a whole new
..PST just for the contacts.

2) Since all of your data is stored in the .PST file, the easiest thing to
do is to copy the .PST to your new machine and then tell Outlook to use it
as your default. Look at the following two articles for help with this --
one is a primer on Outlook files, and the other gives instructions for
moving to a new Outlook 2002 machine. (You didn't mention your Outlook
version, but the second article should work for either Outlook 2002 or
Outlook 2003.)
