When I boot my PC (running Windows 2000 Professional) and
am connected to my cable modem, I get an error
message "Program error...svchost.exe has generated errors,
restart program". When I then open Outlook and try to
manuever through the application it freezes. However, if
I boot my PC and it is not connected to my cable modem, I
can navigate through Outlook just fine. In other words
this problem seems to happen only when I am connected up
to the internet. Please help.

Thanks,

Vern

Vern,
Maybe you have an incorrect proxy with using your cable
modem. Can you browse the internet with IE or Netscape
without errors ?

Install:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp
As soon as you can!

Get a firewall! You NEED one. There are several free ones, including
Sygate ( www.sygate.com )

Then go to WindowsUpdate to pick up the latest updates:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. (You should do this about once a month
anyway, at least)

More info about the worm:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.html
and http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;823980

You also need good antivirus software - for personal use, AVG 6.0 is free -
www.grisoft.com - set it to update daily.

.
Vern,
I am having the exact same problem as you descibed it.
Exactly. Do we have the virus or is this something else?
I haven't seen too many others writing about the same
problem. Now that I've seen your message, I think we must
have the virus. Not sure. Have you received any helpful
replies yet?

Blaster.
Download and install ms03-026 NOW! And scan your computer for the
blasterworm.
