G'day,

When starting office outlook it comes up with a debug error saying microosft
c++ debug library
c:\program....... outlook.exe no matter what I press (abort, retry or
ignore) it just closes down!
I have tried deleting it, reparing it and reinstalling it!

Any help or suggestions would be apprecauted because I don't want to have to
go to Outlook express.
I have installed no new software - my laptop is newish - and I have tried
doing a sytsem retore to a few days earlier when it was working fine.
Any suggestions?

Thanks again
Darren Middleton

Tips of the month:
-What do the Outlook Icons Mean?
-Create an Office 2003 CD slipstreamed with Service Pack 1

Oulook 2002 I think and I don't know what an event viewer is, sorry.

Control Panel-> Administrative Tools-> Event Viewer. Check the Application
log for errors.

Installed Service Pack 3 + Hotfixes already for Outlook 2002?

I encountered a similar situation with Outlook closing. A C++ error would
occur. All updates were installed, and this guy had absolutely NOT
installed any software. However, on close inspection of the Add/Remove
Programs list, I found one of those Outlook update and confirm information
"free" add ins. He was sure he didn't install it. I don't know, but he
also had a fair amount of spyware and adware on his computer.

I suggest checking through your Add/Remove list and be certain you haven't
knowingly or not installed an Outlook add-in.

G'day,

I have tried doing everything you have suggested
No obvious errors in event viewer
I have updated hotfies and SP3 for outlook.

Yet every time it comes up with this message
When starting office outlook it comes up with a debug error saying Microsoft
c++ debug library
c:\program~1\micro~3\office10\outlook.exe
abnormal program termination

no matter what I press (abort, retry or
ignore) it just closes down!

I notice that when it begins to load up it only gets as far as the Norton
antispam icons appearing and then the message appears and it shuts down?
Could there be a conflict with Norton?
However, previously it was working with Norton, although I had noticed that
the Norton icons were missing of late.
The other thing I have noticed - is that if I click the outlook icon on my
desktop the error message that appears when outlook aborts is as above note
the strange directory?
If I click on the icon in my taskbar the error message is exactly the same
when it aborts but it says the directory is c:\programs
files\microsoftoffice\office10\oulook.exe

Do I have two installations of outlook?
I can not find another installation in my add and remove program.

Sorry for such a convoluted reply but you can't be anymore exasperated than
I am at the moment. Thanks again.

Thanks William,

I have been through the add/remove list and there is nothing.
Thanks anyway.

Yes there could. Many people have had problems with Norton and Outlook.
Turn off Norton's scanning of incoming and outgoing email. I understand
from posts here that the only reliable way of doing so is to uninstall
Norton, then reinstall it without the email scanning options.
Do I have two installations of outlook?
I can not find another installation in my add and remove program.

No, one of the messages is using the "short name" of the directory and one
is using the "long name". They're the same place.

Thanks,

I am trying so far no good.
I really only want it for the calender etc is there another option?
My hand held pc relies on the calender!

Thanks
darren

The problem is Norton.
I deleted Norton and outlook worked again.
I reinstalled norton and it gave exactly the same message re bug with
outlook.exe.

Ok so the problem is incompatibility of outlook 2002 and norton antispam...
any suggestions?
Or do I have to dump norton for some other product - it must have anti spam
though.

Thanks
Darren

search for this file msouplug.dll (could be a hidden file; delete or rename
it to msouplug.old ; reboot system; its a file used by the norton anti spam
plugin addin for OL

Amos, OH MY GOD - this fix worked for me!!!!! I don't know where you came up
with this "msouplug.dll" rename/delete idea, but I have been perplexed for
about 5 hours trying to figure out why my Outlook program crashes every time
I open it.

My "Norton Security Center" program subscription expired yesterday and I was
getting SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sick of every five seconds this stupid pop-up would
come on my screen and tell me my subscription had expired, and the ONLY
options were to have it remind you later or go to renew now - no option to
"go away and never come back." What's worse was, I couldn't open email
messages in Outlook or even Word documents without my computer going haywire
because it was trying to do a virus scan on every item - and it wouldn't stop.

I uninstalled every Norton line item in my Control Panel, but several
elements wouldn't uninstall, and I was just SOL. I tried to reinstall my
Norton and not select the "scan email messages" but I didn't even get that
far - it aborted. I had already uninstalled and reinstalled my entire
Microsoft Office Suite, but that did nothing but make me have to redo all my
settings. I had already gone to my Control Panel and deleted and re-entered
my Internet accounts too - didn't help.

The ONLY thing that got my Outlook program back operational was your
brilliant suggestion about this crazy "msouplug.dll" file to get rid of. WOW
am I grateful!!!! I'd set myself up on Outlook Express as a work-around, but
was hating life without the calendar or 3-line preview of each new message.
You are SOOOO my HERO! And I'm going to go around telling anyone who will
listen how EVIL Norton Antivirus is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
