My outlook was previously working fine then all of a sudden it seems to hang
on start up. It makes a clicking sound in the hard drive that doesn't sound
too healthy.

I did a virus scan with McAfee and it turned up firstlook.exe,
newdotnet4_50.exe, uninstall4_50.exe, NDNuninstall4_50.exe. I uninstalled
the newdotnet folder.

I can move the cursor for a while before it begins to run very slowly. I can
close it after waiting about 10 mins after hitting the close "cross" but
that is the only way.

The only things I did were download a CD, delete firstlook.exe and delete a
number of e-mail in my sent items folder.

I have a Compaq presario laptop 1700, 128MB, Windows 2000, and Office XP.

I'd appreciate any help or advice as I can't access or my work e-mails and
contacts!!!

Try Adaware v6, http://www.lavasoft.nu/ to remove the spyware etc
You have a anti virus pkge, so why did'nt it detect on download? is it set
up correctly.
If youre going to download frm '*' sites install a firewall and ensure yr av
app is upto date and functioning correctly.
After this try Detect/Repair in OL
