Does anyone know how to setup Outlook so that it
automatically prompts for a password when clicked on?
Thing is, this computer is already a member of the domain
in an Exchange 2003 environment, and has several users,
but only one specifically needs access to e-mail. We
want the users to be able to use the system, but require
a password to access the e-mail. The client has Windows
2000 Prof, and Outlook 2000.

If the profile is set up the same as in Ol XP, then this
will work... otherwise you should be able to figure it out
in the setup.

From the control panel, click on Mail. Show profiles.
select the profile you wish to modify. Click E-mail
Accounts, change, More settings, on the Advanced tab,
change "logon network security" to NONE. It is likely set
for Password Authentication now.

That will prompt to enter username, password and domain
each time for Outlook.

The problem with that solution is that with only one
domain logon, Outlook could be opened by any of
the clients in the one profile.

If one domain logon is the only option for all to access
the computer, then perhaps a separate Exchange account
for the one client could be setup and then they could
use OWA if it is available...

As suggested by Diane Poremsky [Outlook MVP]

If you are making them a mailbox that does not use the
computer logon credentials, they can still use
outlook - set authentication to none then requires
user/pw to open - as long as they don't use cache
mode or an ost.
