Outlook password issues...

After having set up outlook I find that there seems to be a password issue
with the email account. Outlook will not save it! I have tried deleting the
account and resetting it, and even as far as uninstalling and reinstalling
the suite again, still same issue. Checkdisk shows no errors. Odd thing is
that this happens with xp pro and 2003 pro as well. Have tried both...
Could this be a virus that none of my sanners are picking up on? Help

And WHICH versions of Outlook and Windows are you using for the above
description?

Not a disk problem. It is a problem in the software or its
configuration, or perhaps you do not have the correct login
credentials specified in the e-mail account defined in Outlook, or you
did not select the checkbox to remember the password.
Odd thing is that this happens with xp pro and 2003 pro as well.

Oh, so the above description was for some OTHER version of Outlook and
Windows?

Both WHAT? So far, the only OS and e-mail client you have identified
is Windows XP Pro and Outlook 2003. We don't know what the first one
that you were describing.
Could this be a virus that none of my sanners are picking up on?

No, more likely a registry screwup or a profile problem. For Windows
XP Pro and Outlook 2003, read:

Don't know what OS and Outlook version for the "other" setup that you
described first but neglected to mention. If the other non-detailed
setup is Windows Vista and Outlook 2002, you are screwed because
OL2002 will always ask for the e-mail account login credentials.
Vista dropped support for the Protected Storage (Pstore) mechanism of
caching passwords in the registry and that's the only method that
OL2002 will use. The password will be reused during the entire OL2002
session but once you unload OL2002 and restart it then you need to
provide the password again. Yet another reason for not "upgrading" to
Vista. Vista still kept the registry entry but makes it read-only so
applications cannot normally write their cached passwords to it.

If the other non-detailed setup is Windows Vista and Outlook
2003/2007, then read:

and Outlook versions then you will have to disclose those details.

I Found the answer that worked for me!

All of the registry stuff posted did not work. 3 days and long nights

Try the following.

Go to the following listed folders (via explore or my computer) - one at a
time - right click on the folder, go to properties and untick the "Read Only"
button. Click "Apply" and then "apply changes to this folder, subfolders and
files" and then OK. Do this for:

C:\Program Files
C:\Documents and Settings
and finally
C:\Windows

Do not Fear changing this from Read Only this as these will go back to "Read
Only" when you restart the PC. BUT be sure to configure your Outlook sign in
thingy first.
