Outlook over a vpn

I can connect via vpn, but when trying to connect to sbs 2003 server, i
receive errors "trying to connect to server" "disconnected"
"synchronizing folder" this goes on for ages but no mail is received.?
I can however send mail.
 
Not knowing what the VPN solution is, I can think of a couple of
possibilities.

1) Name resolution. The Microsoft Outlook client is having difficulties
resolving the name of the exchange server over the VPN connection. Name
resolution is done by DNS and WINS. You might be able to resolve this by
adding the name of the servers and ip addresses to the hosts and lmhosts
file on the client machine.

2) The VPN solution you have might be dropping the Kerberos authentication
packets. If go to the security tab (advanced settings of the exchange
account), you might try changing authentication from Kerberos/NTLM to just
NTLM.
