Outlook OST question

I have a user that just deleted his profile for Exchange because he wasn't
using exchange. (so he thought). His problem is that he has all his
contacts and old mail in the offline folders. I created a new profile with
Exchange and thought all would be corrected. The problem is this:

We upgraded servers a while ago and changed the name of the Exchange server.
So now, we cannot open the .ost file since he really did not use that
connection for quite some time.

Can I create an Exchange server with the old server name and create a
mailbox for him and then open the .ost file when I define the offline use?
I just don't know how else to go about this.

Thanks ahead of time.

Hi,

An OST file is really an offline copy of what you have on the server so if
the contacts are not on the server they won't be in the OST file.

I believe that you should look for a PST file instead. When you find this
file and open it from his current outlook profile the contacts will probably
be there.

Hi Joan,

Thank you for your post.

It appears that you would like to recover data from an OST file when the
Exchange mailbox is deleted. Please try the following article to see if you
are able to recover the data:

I hope it helps. Please feel free to post back if you encounter any
difficulties. I look forward to hearing from you.

There are free programs out there that let you convert your ost files to pst
files. Don`t remember what they`re called, but do a search on google and you
should find it. If not, post back here and I`ll see if I can figure it out.

Not free, alas. See www.exchangerecovery.com . I don't know of any other
tool that will do this. All users should have been instructed to sync their
OSTs to the mailbox before you did the migration....
