Outlook opening header when hilited

Will provide more info on this problem shortly but my son who uses
Outlook as his email program on a WinME os is suddenly finding that
his email is opening up when he clicks on a header whereas it had to
be double clicked before. I can't find any setings which would make
this happen. He is using Norton as his AV program but we intend to
remove it and use Avast or AVG. shortly so his AV is not upto date

Sounds like the Preview Pane is enabled maybe? Go to "View" on the
toolbar at the top of Outlook, then unclick "Preview Pane" and it will
stop putting up the preview window showing you the email when you single
click or arrow down through your email.
