Outlook not sending attachments

Richard

I use Outlook 2000 as my email client. However, when I
try to send attachments (any file type) they are stripped
from the message before it reaches the recipient. If I
use Outlook Express on the same computer (XP Home) the
attachments are sent as normal. This is a problem that
has been frustrating me for a long time and I cannot find
any information on the subject. As far as I can tell the
email settings are exactly the same in both programs. I
have a reason for using Outlook as my usual mail client,
so please don't just suggest that I change to Outlook
Express permanently.

Any help would be appreciated.

Nope, we want people to stay on Outlook here :-)

Make sure you're not sending in Rich Text format as it is not supported by
all mail clients. To change your default message format go to Tools->
Options-> tab Mail Format.

Bless my soul! As simple as that. Thanks Roady, I just
tested my setup using Plain Text and the attachments went
through without a problem. I assume that this is the
reason that Outlook Express only offers Plain Text and
HTML? Would using Word as my email editor cause the same
problem? I know that it causes other problems and many
people don't recommend it, but I am interested.

Thanks again.

Glad that your problem resolved.

Completely independent of Word as editor. I use Word as editor all the
time for HTML and Plaintext with no problems. What problems are you having?

I suppose that many people don't recommend using Word as the editor for
reasons not known to me, but I like it as it adds good authoring tools.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

You're welcome! :-)

Using Word as your e-mail editor won't cause you the same problem as long as
you keep using the Plain Text or HTML format. Having Word as your e-mail
editor greatly improved from Office XP but I suggest you enable it and see
if you like it. You'll be having all the Word options available then.

Rob,

I am going on the say so of others. I think that it
probably relates to older, slower computers and/or lack
of memory. I haven't tried it myself, but I will do so
given your comments and those of Roady. Thanks for the
advice.

Thanks again Roady. I only have Office 2000 and have no
immediate intention of upgrading. However I will take
your advice and give Word a try. Help appreciated.
