Outlook not checking hotmail

I'm sure this question might have been asked before, but I can't find
anything on google.

I have outlook 2003, and have set it up with 2 pop servers and 2 hotmail
accounts. Outlook receives automatically fine for the pop accounts, but not
for hotmail. only when I manually click hotmail inbox do I know I have
email. otherwise I do not get any alerts or anything. its annoying because
I usually just leave outlook going in the background, but I need to know
when I get emails to hotmail.

I am running outlook 2003 with windows XP, and my friend has noticed the
same problem as me. is there anything I can do to make it work properly?

I think I have set everything up as best I can. when I go to email options
and send/receive, for hotmail, there is only a send option, no receive.
could this be the problem?

any help will be most appreciated.

cheers,

Phil

Remove one of your Hotmail accounts. Outlook only supports one HTTP
e-mail account (MSN/Hotmail) per mail profile. If you want to use
Outlook against multiple Hotmail accounts, you will need to define N
mail profiles for N Hotmail accounts where each mail profile only has 1
Hotmail account. Then you pick which mail profile you want to use on
startup of Outlook (so don't select a mail profile to be the default).

I used to use Hotmail Popper to provide access to multiple Hotmail
accounts. It runs as a local proxy to convert between POP3 and WebDAV
used for Hotmail. You define a POP3 account in Outlook for Hotmail and
have it use the proxy to get/send your e-mails from/to Hotmail.
However, the author decided to start charging for Hotmail Popper. It
used to be freeware and that's when I used it. Once he decided to
charge for it, I dropped it. I have little need for my Hotmail accounts
(I prefer Yahoo Mail) but still keep one alive now to have a Passport
account needed for other web sites.

what do you mean by mail profiles? I have two separate email address, both
different accounts....

cheers for the reply, will probably go back to using outlook express!

Outlook 2003 is supposed to support multiple accounts - it was outlook 2002
that did not. If it was the same problem, he would get mail on one account
but not the other.

Outlook only displays alerts for the default account. if you log on to IM
with the hotmail address, you'll be alerted new mail arrives.

Then you better read the following KB article:

E-Mail Messages Do Not Appear When You Add a Second Hotmail Account to
Outlook
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823523

Which says:

"Outlook 2003 only supports one Hotmail account per e-mail profile."

Outlook 2003 still has the same deficiency, along with many others, as
Outlook 2002.

I get emails for both my hotmail accounts. just takes ages for them to come
through, unless I manually click send/receive. my first hotmail account IS
my default account.

hope this helps

I didn't say it wouldn't work or that Outlook 2002/2003 refuses to let
you define multiple HTTP accounts. I said that Microsoft said that
multiple HTTP accounts per mail profile are not supported. You can do
TONS of stuff whether or not it is supported. I've seen some Outlook
users manage to get 3 HTTP accounts defined and then incur problems
later or when they try to add yet another HTTP account.
