I want to move the Navigation Pane to the top of the application
instead of the left hand side, since I don't need 1200 pixels of
vertical space, but want more lateral room for a weekly calendar view.
Is this possible?

No.

Aloha (e-mail address removed),

Well, bad news for you then -- no version of Outlook (including 2007) supports
putting the Navigation Pane on the top.

Thanks for the warning, now I won't have any expectations that this
rigidity of feature/function set will be changing in the future.

Too bad engineers make sweeping decisions for all users like this,
limiting their choices and flexibility; it's not necessary and they
will be losing at least one customer over the practice.

Good news is that you can collapse it (minimize it) in 2007 if you like.

Will this free up the vertical space normally taken up by the pane,
such that the calendar can increase in width to use that space?
