No to both. The server names are different, the old servers are NT4
servers
in a domain which has no relationship to the new ADS. The only thing the
users get from the new servers at this point is DHCP/DNS. The names of the
old servers are in the dns zone on the new server but that is all. There
are
no users created in ADS for anyone to use at this time.
Also, when the new exchange services are running, inbound smtp email
doesn't
get delivered to the old server. I haven't done anything to change the mx
records nor have I even configured the old server to use the new dns. I
just
set the new server up on the network, deactivated dhcp on the old and
activated it on the new. The old server is still the wins server. When the
admin called and told me about the OL03 users having the problem I had him
point them back to the old dns as well. I had to take down the exchange
services for them to start working again.
Outlook started and would ask for a user/pw for the ADS. If you hit cancel
then go into control panels/mail the exchange account was set to use the
new
server; changing it to the old server just started the process over again.
I assumed this to be a problem in the outlook config until he also told me
that the old server wasn't getting inbound smtp traffic (or at least,
wasn't
delivering it).
That is the really confusing part to me. I am pretty stumped on why just
bringing a new exchange system up on the network would cause this. FYI,
the
new server has been up on the network for a few weeks now, I just
installed
Exchange03 this weekend as well as changing DHCP/DNS.
Hope that is enough information without rambling.

I put up an exchange 2003 server on my network (also a dns server) and
when
my OL2003 clients load they always try to attach to the exchange2003
server
instead of the exchange 5.5 server they are configured to attach to.
Once
I
shutdown Ex03 on the new server everything works fine. Any help would
be
appreciated.
