I am using Office Small Business Edition 2003. When I type in a new contact
using the full name box (Mr. Joe Smith) it shows up as Mr. Smith Joe. While I
can change the "File As" box to Smith, Joe it still shows up as Mr. Smith Joe
in the contact file. When I search contacts for Joe Smith it doesn't show up
- I have to search for Smith Joe. Any ideas? Seems life a software glitch. thx

You should enter your names by clicking "Full Name" and entering the various
parts in the correct fields. The field to the right of Full Name is a derived
field and enties made in it can be misinterpreted.

Thanks, Brian, but actually the way I entered the name WAS by clicking the
full name box and filling it in...

I clicked Mr for title, typed Joe in for first name, then Smith for last
name, and hit enter. It immediately showed it as Mr. Smith Joe, exactly
opposite of how it should look. The "File As" Box was correct: Smith, Joe. Is
there some other place to specify how those full name field settings (which
are already fixed as Title, First, Middle, Last) translate when you type them
in? Thx.

So what settings did you specify for the Full Name field?

Of course. Same place you set your File As settings: Tools > Options >
Contact Options > Default "Full Name" order...
What did you set?
