Outlook multithreaded. MS has had a Multitasking OS for 15 Years!

Microsoft has had one or another multi-tasking Operating system now for over
15 years (OS/2 v 1.0 shipped in 1986). And yet Outlook still cannot properly
handle multiple things happening at the same time.

It is ridiculous that I have to hit Cancel Server Request just to look at my
day's calendar. There is no inherent connection between viewing data in the
U/I and the communications Outlook has with the email server. Yet I cannot
begin to count the number of hours - and I do mean hours since sometimes
Outlook will spend as much as 20 minutes "thinking" - that I have wasted
waiting for Outlook to deign me with any sort of response other than empty
white square windows.

All the features in the world are useless when the threading model is so
poor that you can't even get to the features.

I second this!

It's absolutely true that this is a terrible backward stupid situation. I use a fairly recent outlook 2003 that is just constantly busy, unresponsive etc. Simple things that are not running in the background:

network communications
compressing pst files
moving large amounts of email
working in dialogs (then, you can't do anything else)
etc.

How hard can it be to let these things run in a background task with outlook being responsive to my userinteraction?
