I am using Outlook 2007 on XPSP2.

How does one find out what those little Outlook message list window icons or
symbols mean?

these appear to be only outlook 2003 icons, I'm using 2007 and have an
icon in my sent items folder which looks like a sheet of paper with 6
little graphics on it arranged in a 2 x 3 matrix. they appear to be
dots in the left column but are a green tick, a red cross and a grey
question mark in the right column. any ideas what that means?

Most of the icons are identical or very similar in Outlook 2003/2007 - older
icons do vary, but are still similar to the newer icon.

These are in the icon column of the sent folder? Are you using a custom
form? Can you put a screenshot online so we can see it? (www.xsolive.com
has a screenshot library you can upload it to)
