I have a new laptop running Windows 2000 and Outlook 2000 that will not download new messages until the user attempts to read a previously unread message. The user is synchronizing outlook and the connection state is automatically controlled. There is no icon in the status tray indicating that the outlook is offline. All other network activity is fine and there is no issue with network connectivity. Any suggestions would be appreciated

TIA
Kevin

Do new messages pop up if the user clicks out of inbox to another folder and
then back to inbox?

Your VLAN config isn't passing UDP packets, most likely? This may be best
posted in microsoft.public.exchange.admin as it isn't really an Outlook
issue - it's a networking/Exchange one.

It has to be, otherwise all of my users would be experiencing the same problem. I have 40 other users on the same network with no trouble. If I log one of the problem users on a different machine, there's no issue, so the problem is definitely on the user's workstation

Anybody know of a way to test whether or not udp packets are getting through the network? Would a pop-up blocker block the udp packets?

OK - then see

I am getting the same behavior out of three of my users.

According to the user, outlook does not download new mail even though it is working online except when they try to read new mail within the folder. Unfortunately, our network is slightly more complicated than Jim's, but I too agree that this should not be a network issue, in that it affects only select users. However, to add a twist, the users that are having problems have the exact same hardware and image as other users not effected. The only additional software on one user is Palm.

We're not doing any NAT on our network (plus this was supposed to be fixed in SP1 and we're on SP2), but I may have to try to do the registry entry to try and get around the problem anyway. I'll let you know how it turns out.
